Find Profitable Niches

4 Simple Steps To Finding Profitable Niche Markets

Have you been struggling to start your own online business?

Are you starting to wonder if the whole concept of becoming an internet entrepreneur is just one big scam?

Do you love the idea of earning extra income from home, giving you the freedom to live life on your own terms…

...but so far, everything you’ve tried has failed to work?

The good news is you CAN create your own online business to provide a better life for your family... Even if you’re not a marketing genius, a world-famous celebrity, or a “technical whiz” with boatloads of free time.

The bad news is that the hardest part is getting started. After all, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by all the confusing options and conflicting information. And to make matters worse, there are all kinds of scammy “gurus” out there who make their living by taking advantage of your inexperience.

Trust me—I know how you feel.

And that’s why I want to share with you the #1 most important step to starting your own online business, which is finding a profitable niche. Finding the right niche is essential. Trying to start an online business without having the right niche first is like trying to build a business on a foundation of quicksand. It just won’t work.

Here’s a simple 4-step method you can use to find a profitable online niche:

Step 1: Brainstorm Your Interests

The best place to start is by examining the things that interest you. What gets you riled up & excited?

Many people skip this step...and that’s a big mistake!

You’re going to be spending a lot of time on your online business. If you choose a topic that you’re passionate about, you’ll be much more likely to actually DO the work (and you’ll enjoy it a lot more, too).

So to get started, brainstorm a list of at least 20 interests that you’d like to build an online business around. Don’t judge yourself as you write; just let the ideas flow freely.

Once you’ve managed to create a list of 20+ interests, your next step should be to narrow that list down to your top 5.

Of all those topics, which ones are you most passionate about?

Which ones seem to have the most potential for fun and profit?

Narrow down your list to your top 5 interests, and then move on to step 2…

Step 2: Research Your Audience

When starting an online business, what’s the #1 most important thing to focus on?

Hint: it’s not your product. It’s the person who will be using your product...AKA, your audience.

You should be focused on your audience every step of the way. Everything you do should be focused on how you can help them (not how they can help you).

So how do you identify & research an audience?

An easy way to get started is to find out where they’re hanging out online, and then go see what kind of things they’re saying.

Find relevant Facebook pages and forums. Read the comments on popular blogs and YouTube videos.

Start to get an idea of who these people are, what their biggest problem is, and how you might be able to help them. Once you do that, you’ll be ready to start step 3...

Step 3: Research Keywords In Your Niche

Next, you need to do some deep-dive research on your topics to make sure that each topic has the potential to be a profitable niche. In order to do that, you need to come up with a list of keywords.

First, use Google’s “auto-complete” feature to get keyword ideas. Search for a basic keyword related to your niche in Google. But before pressing “enter,” look at the suggested searches that come up underneath.

For example, some suggested searches for “dog training” include “dog training tips” and “dog training collars.”

Now, hit “enter” so that you see the search results. Scroll to the bottom of the page, and look at the list of “Related searches.” You’ll get even more ideas, such as “dog training courses,” “dog training classes,” and “dog training videos.”

Anytime you come across a new keyword that seems related, add it to the list.

Step 4: Choose the Best Niche

Your last step will be to take your keyword lists and analyze them for both potential and competition.

Head on over to the Google Keyword Planner and search for all the keywords in your list, one at a time.

For example, the term “dog training” gets 90,000 searches per month and has a medium level of competition:

This is encouraging, because it suggests that this niche has good potential without too much competition.

Keep in mind that competition is not necessarily a bad thing. Having some competition is actually a GOOD sign! When a niche has some competition, it means that people have already proven that they're willing to spend money.

So don’t be discouraged if your niche has some competition; that’s a good thing. If you find that your niche has way too much competition, however…

(For example, if you’re targeting the keyword “weight loss”...)

Then you might need to revisit your niche and try to drill down to a smaller subset of that category. So if “weight loss” is too competitive, try a more specific niche like “weight loss after pregnancy.” Then you’ll need to go back to step 2 and research this new niche in more detail.
