I recently saw two comments from the same person which prompted this valuable advice…
Firstly, when asked “what has been the biggest challenge or obstacle that has stopped you from reaching your income goals?”, they replied “lack of defined goals.”
Then, when asked to define their greatest strength, they answered, “I’m like a dog with a bone – I don’t quit”.
Separately, these are both fine answers. Heck, it’s encouraging to see someone who has determination, and everyone has to start somewhere!
But taking into consideration that they also admitted to having spent “thousands” on information and coaching products, this raises an important question…
Why does someone who has been around for some time and spent thousands on products continue to do whatever they’re doing without success (“dog with a bone”), without having clearly defined goals?
So there are three important pieces of valuable advice to take away from this scenario…
1) Don’t follow a business model if it’s “new” or “unique”, as these words also mean “untested” and “high risk”. Instead, stick to the foundations of Internet Marketing – or in other words, what has been proven to work time and time again (i.e. set up a squeeze page and sales funnel, build a list, promote affiliate products and good quality content to that list).
This serves as a reminder of the adage, “If you continue to do what you’ve always done, you will continue to get what you’ve always gotten”.
On a similar note, if a product doesn’t have any testimonials of other customers making money from it – stay well away.
2) If you’ve spent over $200 on information products right now in all kinds of different business models, stop. Buying more information on totally different things will not make you successful.
This serves as a reminder of the adage, “if you continue to do what you have been doing, you will continue to get the same results…”
Just stick to ONE proven business model, and apply what you already have to the very end. It doesn’t need to be unique or new. If it’s a proven system and you implement it as shown, it’ll work for you.
Then once you have your basics down, other information products will help you to build on these foundations.
3) Define your goals clearly. Do you want to make a living selling other people’s products as an affiliate? Or do you want to create your own products? Which niche do you want to specialise in?
Then turn this into just one sentence to summarize it. For example…
“I want to sell other people’s information products in the ‘make money online’ niche as an affiliate, by building a responsive email list and maintaining a good relationship with my audience via a high-quality informational blog”.
Once you’ve decided on your goal summary, write it down somewhere obvious so you never stray too far from it.
If you follow the advice contained on this page alone, you’ll be sure to step back onto the right path to success 🙂
